Tips for Coloring Seahorses

When I color, I like to keep things simple. A good set of colored pencils and a fine-tip marker for outlines do the trick. Sometimes, I throw in some glitter gel pens for a little extra sparkle—because who doesn't love a bit of shimmer?

Choosing Your Colors

Seahorses come in all sorts of colors, from bright yellows to deep blues. Once, I tried making a rainbow seahorse, and it ended up looking like it belonged in a disco! My niece loved it, though—she said it was the most fabulous fish she'd ever seen. So, don't be afraid to get creative and use colors that make you happy.

Fun Facts About Seahorses

Did you know seahorses are the only animals where the males give birth? It’s true! I remember telling my little cousin about it, and she was so amazed that she drew a whole family of seahorses, each with a tiny baby in tow. It was the cutest thing! Also, seahorses can change color to blend in with their surroundings, kind of like how Pascal from Tangled changes color to match Rapunzel's dresses. That’s another fun detail to play with in your coloring!

My Story

One time, I was snorkeling and spotted a real-life seahorse! It was so small and delicate, I almost missed it. When I told my nephew about it, he asked if the seahorse was as funny as SpongeBob’s pet, Gary. We both laughed at the idea, and it made coloring the pages even more fun. So, while you color, imagine these little sea creatures having their own underwater adventures. It makes the experience much more enjoyable!
